Lately With Lila | November 2019

What a month, friends! November is kinda a blur, tbh. It feels like we’ve been flung into 🎶 the holiday season 🎶 with no warning! But I digress. Let’s take a look at how the month went…

Winterwood by Shea Earnshaw ★★★★☆

Winterwood was a lovely, quiet read that I’m surprised to say I really enjoyed. It was calming and atmospheric and just had the perfect winter vibes. Admittedly, it was a tad slow, but other than that, if you’re looking for a wintery, atmospheric read, then try giving Winterwood a go! For more of my thoughts on this book, check out my mini review!

“Don’t Take The Money” by Bleachers // I heard this number in the Let It Snow trailer and fell in love! It’s just a super fun song that I love day dreaming to.

“I’m Good” by Wafia // Ah, this song. This song is now my #1 breakup anthem. I’ve loved Wafia’s music for a long time but this bouncy number is a sure way to cheer up!

“Enta Eih” by Elyanna // I discovered Elyanna on Instagram and absolutely fell in love! Her voice is astonishingly good! Definitely check her out!

“Love Myself” by Olivia O’Brien // This is such a great feel good song for when you’re feeling down.

I’ve fallen in love with Ariel Bissett and Raeleen Lemay’s new bookish podcast, Books Unbound! I like podcasts, but I always forget to listen to them—but not this one! Ariel is one of my favorite booktubers and I really enjoyed Raeleen’s channel when she used to do booktube, so I was so excited to see they’ve decided to collab on a bookish podcast. And I’m happy to say that I love it! It’s like curling up with old friends to gush about books! Highly recommend! I’ve also been enjoying Spotify playlists by @sweetcreature lately. They’re an instagrammer who I found and decided to check their Spotify (which they had linked in their profile) and I fell in love with their playlists! Something else I’ve also been loving is the YouTube channel tiffanyferg! Tiffany has a great series called “internet analysis” in which she talks about modern internet culture and its affect on our lives and I’ve really been enjoying it. She makes some really great points and always tries to show many facets of the issues/topics she looks at!

LOTS of adaptation news dropped this month and I am  L I V I N G  for it, y’all!

First off, the trailer for booktuber Piera Forde‘s adaptation of Jay Kristoff’s Nevernight dropped and holy smokes, friends! It looks incredible! You may recognize Piera as a well-known booktuber and #1 Jay Kristoff stan, but she’s also a professional actress outside of booktube. She and her team decided to make a web series adaptation of Nevernight and the got a few grants and just went for it. Piera has stressed that her adaptation is not as big of a production as she may have wished but honestly, y’all, from the looks of the trailer, she and her team have done an outstanding job with it! Piera is also friends with Jay and really wanted to honor his work as best she could and so I’m guessing this adaptation is going to be really good! Check out the trailer:

Netflix released its adaptation of John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle’s YA anthology, Let It Snow. I have yet to watch it, but it definitely looks like a fun, heartwarming holiday story, based on the trailer.

The adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials also was released this past month and I haven’t watched it yet, but rest assured, I will be correcting that soon! His Dark Materials is a childhood favorite of mine and the trailers for the adaptation look incredible and have me so hyped!

gif-slowedThis past month definitely had its ups and downs. I was still struggling with my depression, but through that I did manage to have some really lovely bright spots.

I spent more time with my friends and we even went to this Korean tea house and got flower tea, which was really beautiful and special and, of course, delicious. I also got contacts, as well as new glasses, which means, ya know, I can actually see now! I also love my new glasses—they’re rose gold half-rimmed cat-eyes and they’re so pretty!

My 25th birthday was also this month and it happened to fall on Thanksgiving. I had a pretty quiet day full of delicious food. My mom made all of my favorite Thanksgiving foods and we stuffed ourselves. I also got some really lovely birthday presents, which was nice.

In other news, DECEMBER IS UPON US, FRIENDS! I know it’s cliche to say, but 2019 just flew by insanely fast! I mean, I absolutely cannot believe that 2020 begins next month! Anyhoo, December is a pretty busy time and, outside of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, I’ve got some fun things planned! I can’t wait to see how the month goes!

  1. Happy belated birthday! November was a quiet month for me, but tbh it feels like the calm before storm haha.

I really hope I can get to Girl of Snow and Glass and Winterwood this December, they just seem perfect for the colder weather and rainy days! I’ve been saving Let It Snow for sometime nearer christmas 😀

    I hope you’ll have a wonderful December!
